This powerful music was originally issued on three different albums, all of them included here in their entirety. The extra track "What's New?", which rounds out this set, was the only quartet performance (featuring Farmer) from a long quintet set recorded at Boomers in New York.

Although Art Farmer (1928-1999) recorded numerous quartet sessions, the ones included on this set are the only dates with this exact formation, and were recorded all in a row. This release presents, in chronological order, the complete recordings of the Art Farmer Quartet featuring Cedar Walton (born in 1934, and age 75 at this writing) on piano, Sam Jones (1924-1981) on bass and Billy Higgins (1936-2001) on drums. This powerful music was originally issued on three different albums. The first LP was recorded on March 5, 1975, and was devoted to Ellington tunes, while the other two were a mixture of well known standards, plus one original by Art Farmer and another one by Cedar Walton. The extra track "What's New?", which rounds out this set, was the only quartet performance (featuring Farmer) from a long quintet set (with Clifford Jordan on tenor sax) recorded at Boomers in New York on May 14 & 15, 1976.
