Editor's info: Jesper Lovdal, Mark Solborg, & Anders Provis introduces melodic and openminded trioplaying on this debut-album. The contents include beautiful clarinet, subtle acoustic songs, baritone burnout, and occasional squeeks and bleeps.
Ventilator is a journey into an intimite world of tales, inventions, sonic tourism and quiet, late night improv at the old family cabin.

Jesper Lovdal - reedman and composer - has the last 10 years been a regular and very active ingredient on the Copenhagen Jazzscene and has performed and recorded with Tim Hagans, Kresten Osgood, Cuong Vu, Jacob Anderskov, Anders Mogensen, Michael Blake and Wolfgang Muthspiel just to mention a few on a very long list of appearances and collaborations. His own "Lovedale" has been described as "having the same warm passion and drive as the ones you find in Mingus, Dolphy and Coltrane." The group was DMA nominee 2006. www.jesperloevdal.dk

One of his latest releases was described as ".. a blend you get high on with a passion that burns on every track.. solid and sovereign interplay with a no nonsense attitude.. get it !' www.solborg.dk
Anders Provis - drummer & composer - Is all over the young Copenhagen Jazzscene as a sideman and co-leader. An increasing number of new upcoming bands includes Anders and his delicate and melodic drumming. Textil, Band of the Universe, Simon Tolddams Prügelknabe are just a few.
GAZ-ETA From the look of things, it seems that Danish multi-instrumentalist Jesper Lovdal put together his latest trio Ventilator quite recently. Playing in other outfits, such as Oriental Mood, Hvad Er Klokken and Lovedale, Lovdal decided to create a whole new outfit that fits his musical mode more closely. Ventilator includes Lovdal on clarinets, saxes, flutes, percussion and even a Wurlitzer on one track, guitarist Mark Solborg and percussionist Anders Provis. Together, the trio churns out music that is thoughtful, carefully stated and never full of any overpowering emotion. This may be the album's biggest down fall. The lack of any direct, straightforward emotion makes some of the pieces sound a tad same. On the plus side is the players' effective playing with one another. Solborg's guitar playing is a mish-mash of an early Bill Frisell and a lazier Marc Ribot. He's articulate and he states his mission in as simple a fashion as possible. Provis' percussion prowess is understated as well. He tends to colour the field with a slew of delicate brush strokes and a concession of cymbal caresses. Lovdal gels the session together with some lovely clarinet calls, flute swirls and sax cries. The man knows what he's after and he'll do everything to get it. Don't be all disappointed if the music doesn't speak to you all at once. As airy as this music is, these sounds are actually great to warm up to, something that speaks volumes in hushed tones, rather than in loud yelps. [Tom Sekowski]
