Deep in his physical embrace of the bass, Peter Kowalds sensors were constantly switched on. He loved to work with dancers, singers, painters and poets, uniting within him these creative obsessions. On Open Secrets this philosopher, hermit, iconoclast, priest and traveler through world and time is all by himself, sharing the particular moment only with the actual listener. To present all this in his art., all he needed was his bass. Recorded in 1988, Open Secrets is one of very few documents celebrating the freedom of the moment with dedication, consistency and conviction. (Wolf Kampmann)
