Jeden z ostatnich koncertów Johna Coltrane'a.
Trzy epokowe kompozycje Johna Coltrane'a - "Naima", "Crescent" i "Leo" w fenomenalnych, koncertowych wersjach z Temple University w Filadelfii.

PREVIOUSLY UNISSUED!!!
One of John Coltrane's last preserved live performances ever.
Taped in Philadelphia with excellent sound quality, this set presents Coltrane playing probably the freest version of "Naima", along with readings of two more of his compositions: "Crescent" and a powerful version of "Leo".
Coltrane died shortly after this performance at the age of 40 on July 17, 1967.
ALL TRACKS NEVER BEFORE RELEASED
This previously unheard Philadelphia performance was one of the very last occasions in which John Coltrane was recorded live. After this set, taped on November 11, 1966, he would record a number of sessions for Impulse (which would mostly be issued posthumously), and would be recorded privately at the Village Theatre in New York on December 26 (this performance is mentioned in discographies as circulating among collectors, but it has never been released; the audio quality is unknown), and finally at New York's Olatunji Center, on April 23, 1967. The latter would prove to be his final live performance, which Trane gave despite feeling extreme pain. He died of liver cancer on July 17, 1967. The Temple University concert, which appears here for the first time ever on CD, showcased Coltrane with the last group he fronted, which was moving further and further in the direction of free jazz. From the classic quartet, only bassist Jimmy Garrison remained. Coltrane's wife Alice McLeod (aka Alice Coltrane) is on the piano, Rashied Ali is on drums, and Pharoah Sanders (who had also collaborated with Coltrane on his 1965 album Ascension) plays a second tenor sax (he also performed piccolo and percussion with the band, but he is not heard on those instruments here).
