Editor's info:
2 LPs ON 1 CD!!
Two long unavailable LPs by the great Erroll Garner, Swinging Solos & Soliloquy. The first album appears here on CD in its complete form for the first time ever. With the exception of the two final tracks here, both LPs were recorded during the same February 6, 1957 session, which is compiled here in its entirety. Includes 12-page booklet.

Down Beat original review: Soliloquy
"Garner is a strong stylist, one of the very few unique stylists in jazz today. This is piano playing with obvious, meaningful roots in jazz tradition, brought into focus by Garner's splendid contemporary conception and moving sense of time. When he stretches out, as he does here, each performance becomes a string of related ideas, instead of the clichés often substituted for inspiration. This LP is another record of his remarkable ability. The listener who accepts this challenge will profit. (Don Gold)

The 1957 date contained here was the first solo piano session by Erroll Garner in a couple of years. He had recorded one solo piano session for a small label in Hollywood on February 7, 1951, followed by many trio dates. His next solo recording was made for Columbia, on February 29, 1952, followed by another for EmArcy on March 14, 1955. Garner's next solo recording consists of the 1957 session contained on this edition. Garner began his contract with Columbia Records in 1951 and would record many sessions for the label (although he wasn't an exclusive artist for Columbia and recorded for other companies at the same time). Garner was a very prolific recording artist, capable of completing many faultless one-take masters in a couple of hours. "When Erroll came in to play this session on the evening of February 6, 1957 at Columbia's 30th Street Studios in New York City, he was subdued, relaxed, and went into the control room to 'loosen up' the engineers, kidding around with his usual warm, friendly touch. He then noodled the piano briefly, suddenly looked up, and said 'Ready? Any time.'" (Martha Glaser & George Avakian, from the original liner notes).
