Ivo Neame to pianista wyjątkowy. Dzięki gruntownemu wykształceniu (nauka na Royal Academy of Music), rozpiętej wyobraźni i nieszablonowych zainteresowaniach (fascynacja muzyką dwóch gigantów XX wieku - Paula Hindemitha i Steve'a Reicha) ten brytyjski pianista wykształcił oryginalny język, zarówno w warstwie kompozycji jak i instrumentalnego warsztatu.

Jego flagowym zespołem jest wielokrotnie nagradzane Trio Phronesis, poza nim Ivo Neame prowadzi Ivo Neame Quartet/Quintet i Ivo Neame Octet. Jeden z prominentnych członków London's Loop Collective (owocna współpraca z the Cinematic Orchestra), wspólne koncerty/nagrania z legendami jazzu jak Kenny Wheeler, Hermeto Pascoal czy David Binney, wszystko to sprawiło, że jest dzisiaj jednym z najbardziej rozchwytywanych jazzowych muzyków na wyspach.

Krążek "Caught in the Light of Day" (Edition Records 2009) jego kwartetu trafił na listę >best album of 2010 by MOJO Magazine< zajmując czwartą lokatę. Jednym z powodów była z pewnością niesamowicie twórcza współpraca pomiędzy dwoma instrumentalistami - Ivo Neame'm na fortepianie i Jimem Hartem na wibrafonie. W licznych recenzjach przywoływano dokonania Chicka Corea i Gary'ego Burtona lub Paula Bley'a i Gary'ego Burtona, trudno sobie wyobrazić lepszą rekomendację.

Nowy album, wydany w barwach Edition Records powstał w kwartecie, Ivo Neame na klawiszach (acoustic piano, fender rhodes, mellotron, hammond organ, nord lead), George Crowley za saksofonie tenorowym, Tom Farmer na kontrabasie i James Maddren za perkusją. Niby to klasyczna kwartetowa obsada, ale lider nader często siada za fenderem, wprowadzając rasowy gatunkowy melting pot, chwilami jakbyśmy słyszeli Medeski, Martin and Wood. Słychać, że znają się na rzeczy, nikt nikogo nie popędza, jedno wynika z drugiego, niezwykle pomysłowe kompozycje Neame'a (zarówno w warstwie harmonicznej jak i rytmicznej), jego nieposkromiona wyobraźnia pozwala mu na konstruowanie misternych, wielobarwnych struktur operujących na granicy złożoności i prostoty. Coś co udaje się niewielu muzykom, na płycie "Moksha" realizuje z pełnym sukcesem.

Reminiscent of the subtle and shimmering grooves we have come to expect from the likes of Medeski, Martin and Wood, Moksha is driven by multi-layered rhythmic textures and grooves and brilliantly fluid lines animated by Ivo’s own exploratory voice.

Taking its title from Hindu philosophy, the Sanskrit Moksha refers to emancipation from the cycle of death and rebirth – to ultimate freedom from earthbound cares and ignorance leading to self-realization and self-knowledge – a form of release recognisable in great music too.

Ivo’s own music has been somewhat in the shade of his other successful and better known projects. Moksha allows him to step into the full sun with a bright and beautiful new work. Ivo’s sound is contemporary and modern and undeniably his. With Moksha, he has produced an album of sheer brilliance and class.
