Są artyści, którzy konsekwentnie szukają swojego miejsca tam, gdzie inni rzadko zaglądają, czyli w przestrzeni "pomiędzy". Gatunkami muzycznymi, stylami w muzyce, kulturowymi tradycjami, akademickim instrumentarium... modami. Nie ma ich wcale tak wielu. To na przykład prowadząca od lat zespół L'Arpeggiata - Christina Pluhar, kwartet wokalny Hilliard Ensemble czy Maya Homburger. Takim muzykiem jest także francuski muzyk grający na gitarze basowej, tubie oraz instrumencie uważanym za jej przodka, serpencie. Jego kolejne projekty z pogranicza klasyki i improwizacji mają swoich wielbicieli na całym świecie. Wystarczy wspomnieć cztery nagrania:

By releasing “Diminuendo” CAM JAZZ enabled ever-evolving musician Andrea Lombardini to seek a unique timbric world. Tuba, serpent and colascione lute are simply the bass versions of the flugelhorn, cornet and lute, respectively. Their texture unfolds into a captivating, kaleidoscopic haze of colours and timbric, harmonic refinements that wrap you in new sensations: new as in not yet rediscovered, new as in thousands of years old and strengthened by a quiet solemnity we have, to date, painfully forgotten. Lombardini’s concept here is to connect ancient music to folk music from distant countries and jazz, stylistically distinguished by its satisfyingly full sound, soft and containing all the vitality of a conflict between the ostinatos and improvisational freedom, the relentless groove on drums and long notes on tuba, the enchanting solos on Longhorn electric bass and those on piano, the ancestral sound of the serpent and the ancient sound of the colascione lute. Three musicians, six instruments: artists who love to reinvent themselves in a unique expressiveness and style. Low-pitched sounds paint frescoes in an ethereal mood, conveyed through tones muffled but inebriated by their powerful harmonics, vibrations both suspended and driven by continual energy pulses, unforgettable melodies and amazing harmonies. The particular nature of the instruments played here is emphasised by jazz-flavoured drums and piano and results in an extraordinary sensory experience. Andrea Lombardini on electric bass and lute, Michele Godard on tuba and serpent and Emanuele Maniscalco on drums and piano manage to square the circle of the ancient and futuristic by finding a common element: the unexpected.
