[. . .] Krążek rozpoczyna się z absolutnie grubej rury. „Water” brzmi jak dwustuprocentowy radiowy hit. Tylko lenistwu prezenterów radiowych Polacy zawdzięczają fakt, ze to jeszcze nie jest wielki przebój. Genialny, na równi z największymi, tak lubianymi przez radio, hitami Joe Cockera. Są chórki, mocne gitary i tekst zainspirowany spotkaniem z … Gorbaczowem. Panowie podobno rozmawiali o możliwych brakach wody pitnej na Ziemi, a ta rozmowa stała się kanwą metafory tekstu. Prawda, że wspaniałe otwarcie?

Tempo odrobinę zwalnia, wyraźniej słychać hammondy, a Eric Burdon śpiewa kolejny tekst ważny, polityczny tekst. W „Memorial Day” wspomina hipisów i poetów, ba, nawet Spartan, by zagrzmieć, że wojny są dziełem bogatych, ale to biedni za nie płacą. Następna piosenka, której w 2013 roku nie wolno przegapić.

Brzmienie staje się bardziej delikatne, a Eric Burdon flirtuje z bluesem, soulem i gospel. „The Devil and Jesus” opowiada o siłach, które sprawują kontrolę nad nami. I jest w tej piosence trochę z ducha starego, dobrego Steely Dan.

Krążek kończy Diddleyowy „Before You Accuse Me”. Zaśpiewany początkowo tylko z grającą ostinato gitarą elektryczną przeradza się w kolejnego rasowego bluesa, z pięknie brzmiącymi responsami zagranymi na trąbce z tłumikiem. Jeśli baliście się, że za mało na tej płycie czystego bluesa – końcówka rozwiewa wszystkie wątpliwości.
Eric Burdon to jeden z tych starych mistrzów, którzy po prostu nie potrafią zawieść naszych oczekiwań. Oby jak najszybciej zaśpiewał te piosenki na żywo, gdzieś w Polsce [. . .]


Polityka:
[. . .] Mimo ukończonych 70 lat artysta prezentuje znakomitą formę, nie tylko wykonawczą, ale i twórczą. Warto podkreślić, że Burdon jest autorem bądź współautorem większości piosenek na płycie, a przy jej nagraniu nie korzystał ze znanych „gości specjalnych”, podnoszących atrakcyjność promocyjną tytułu. Głos wokalisty jest czysty i mocny, jak za najlepszych lat dekady temu. A muzyka – jak zwykle u Burdona. Jest i ballada, jest rockowe granie, elementy funku, a wszystko przesiąknięte tym, co artysta kocha najbardziej, czyli bluesem. No i, też jak kiedyś, w czasach The Animals, hołd składany wielkiemu mistrzowi artysty, Bo Diddleyowi [. . .]

[. . .] ”Til Your River Runs Dry’ is a vibrant and dynamic record made by one of the elder statesmen of rock and roll, Eric Burdon. Chances are he won’t win over any new fans with this fine platter, but the old fans will rejoice that voice is back.

Burdon sounds like a man on a mission here. He has been doing his musical thing for 50 years and counting, but his spirit and soul are as youthful as ever. At age 71, Burdon has seen, heard and lived it all, and he brings that experience to the songs on this new LP.

Things kick off with the album’s first single, ‘Water,’ which is a dynamic rocker overflowing with soul. When he sings, “Hopelessness has seized the land / I will not beg I will demand / I will not give up and one day soon / The truth will spill into your sitting room“, you’re certain he means every word. The song was inspired by a chance meeting Burdon had several years ago with Mikhail Gorbachev, with water being tagged as a possible major problem facing the world, but he uses it as a metaphor for much more. His band delivers a solid, hard rocking groove with just the right amount of grit [. . .]

‘Til Your River Runs Dry is a collection of 12 songs, most of which were written by Eric. The album's title reflects Eric's lifelong passion to “express his own truth.” The result is a deeply intimate, honest self-portrait, as well as an unsparing look, through his eyes, at religion, politics and the environment.

Many of the song titles reflect Eric’s continuing concerns, addressing the topics that he finds most urgent, intriguing and important.

Produced by Eric Burdon and Tony Braunagel, the new album was recorded at Playback Studios in Santa Barbara, at Ultratone Recording in Studio City (where Eric recorded his last two albums, My Secret Life and Soul of a Man), and in New Orleans, where Eric feels most closely connected to his original, musical roots. ‘Til Your River Runs Dry was mixed by Ed Cherney and mastered by Doug Sax and Eric Boulanger at The Mastering Lab in Ojai, California.
