Patrik Jansson debiutował jako gitarzysta i wokalista w 2011 roku. Po trzech latach nie tylko zmienił swój image, ale i stworzył dojrzały album pełen białego, nowoczesnego blues rocka.

Już kompozycja „Here I Am”, o radosnym klimacie, znakomicie wprowadza w nastrój krążka. Oparta o chicagowski shuffle, skrzy się bogatą aranżacją, gościnnie gra na harmonijce znakomity Mikael Fall, sprawnie gra sekcja dęta, a sam Patrik oczywiście niezgorzej gra bluesowe frazy na gitarze.
Do zaśpiewania singlowej piosenki "Moving On" w kołyszącym się, acz nie nudnym tempie, z obowiązkową szczyptą bluesowej melancholii lider zaprosił Lisę Lystam. Szwedzka wokalistka bluesowa wprowadza jeszcze jeden element ubarwiający krążek, a jej przydymiony głos zachęca do sięgnięcia i po jej płytę. W dodatku mamy ciepły ton saksofonu tenorowego i fajne akcenty dęciaków w finale.
Typowym teksańskim numerem jawi się tu piosenka „One More Broken Heart”. Utrzymany w klimacie Stevie Ray Vaughana utwór nie powala może szczególną oryginalnością, ale fani takiego brzmienia gitary elektrycznej dostaną porcję uczciwego grania.
W podobnym nastroju, acz zmieszanym z chicagowskim graniem skomponowany został „Tell Me Baby”. Tu również z miejsca wyróżnia się solidnym tonem harmonijka Mikaela Falla, a dialog gitarzysty z harmonijkarzem to wyjątkowo smakowita partia nagrania.
Bardziej jasno i tradycyjnie brzmi ta sama harmonijka w piosence „Get Away”. Przypominająca southernowe przeboje idealnie uzupełnia klimat krążka, wciąż nie pozostawiając złudzenia, że to biały, współczesny blues rock. A solowa partia Falla to już popis wirtuozerii w miniaturze.
Znakomity, mocny, niemal rockowy riff otwiera kompozycję „Greed”. Oparta o funkowy rytm, wykorzystująca potęgę sekcji dętej, jest jeszcze jednym zadziwiająco jasnym punktem w programie płyty. Fantastycznie sprawdzają się też w aranżacji obsługiwane przez Pettera Stenberga hammondy.
„One Way Track” to cudowne połączenie rockowej pasji z bluesową melancholią i teksańskim pojmowaniem muzyki gitarowej. Piosenka wydaje się być trochę ociężała, ale to spowolnienie charakterystyczne dla starego, solidnego hard rocka.
Najbardziej odstaje od wizerunku typowego bluesa utwór „Lonis”. To instrumentalna ballada, typowa dla estetyki lat 80. XX wieku. Nie brak jej jednak bluesowych motywów i stanowi idealne uzupełnienie artystycznego obrazu Janssona.
Znana z repertuaru B.B. Kinga „Never Make Your Move Too Soon” wlewa w uszy słuchaczy następną porcję wyjątkowo energetycznego grania. I tu znów oprócz klarownej gitary lidera mamy świetnie zaaranżowane partie hammondów.
Płytę kończy potężnie brzmiąca, raczej rockowa ballada „Keep Holding On”. Ale partie gitary Janssona nie pozostawiają wątpliwości, że to muzyk o bluesowych korzeniach.

Wydaje się, że po trzech latach muzykowania The Patrik Jansson Band wiedzą już, czego mogą od nich chcieć biali słuchacze w Europie. I właśnie taką muzykę, z wyrazistą gitarą i rockowym pazurem serwują na „Here We Are”. Aż się prosi, żeby przepłynęli Bałtyk i zagrali w Polsce.


Although only May, 2014 is already proving to be an absolutely stellar year for new releases, with my pile of favorite albums for the year already far exceeding previous years, with the latest one to be added to that pile being "Here We Are" the newest release via the Swedish Blues Rock Phenom, The Patrik Jansson Band.

"Here We Are" marks the second release I have received of theirs, with the first being their 2011 self titled Debut release an album I had no problem choosing in my Year End Review as Best Debut Album (Band) (Europe). Consisting of Patrik Jansson (Guitar/Vocals), Petter Stenberg (Organ/Keys), Per Wallander (Bass), and Patrik Thelin (Drums), The Patrik Jansson Band offer up a super infectious mix of tunes of which fans of Buddy Guy, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Joe Bonamassa's style will really love. Additional Special Guests on "Here We Are" were
Lisa Lystam (Vocals on Track 2 "Moving On"), 2013 World Harmonica Champion Mikael Fall displaying his magic on Three Tracks, Daniel Bjurling (Horns), Adam Farnlof (Tenor Sax), and Andreas Olofsson Tuisku (Trumpet and Trombone).

As with his previous release, "Here We Are" also continues to show us the amazing and prolific writing skills of Patrik Jansson, with him penning nine of the albums ten Tracks. For the one Cover on "Here We Are", they chose a nice classic B.B. King tune "Never Make Your Move To Soon", a song that the band energizes ala Stevie Ray Vaughan style.

For my three favorites on "Here We Are", I chose Track 2 "Moving On", Track 5 "Get Away", and Track 9 "Never Make Your Move To Soon".

"Moving On" was the one Track The Patrik Jansson Band released as a single and for airplay it was a good choice. A nice slower grooved tune that would of just been fine on its own with just the band, but once you add the heavenly Vocals of Lisa Lystam and Horn work of Daniel Bjurling, you wind up with a real winner of a song. Great work from Patrik Jansson on Guitar and Petter Stenberg on Keys.

I love great Harmonica and what better to listen to than from World Harmonica Champion Mikael Fall, whom does a wonderful job on "Get Away". This Track really took me back to the great sound of the 70's ala Allman Brothers/Grateful Dead sound. This beauty was my number one favorite on the album.

Going all Stevie Ray Vaughanish on us is what "Never Make Your Move To Soon" is certainly all about as The Patrik Jansson Band show us how absolutely versatile they are as a band, in fact had I not known this was a B.B. King tune, I would of guessed that it was one of Vaughan's. It is that kind of uniqueness that the The Patrik Jansson Band infuse in all their music, making it familiar yet decisively unique and fresh sounding at the same time.

The Patrik Jansson Band power out their set with "Keep Holding On", as they bring us a another super Track, which reminded me a lot of Joe Bonamassa, especially when Patrik Jansson lets it all loose on Guitar. One thing I must also mention, is that Patrik Jansson is not only a great Guitarist, but he is also an amazing singer, perfect for their style of music and had I not told you he was Swedish, you would of never guessed it by his singing.

"Here We Are" is leaps and bounds one of the finer Blues Rock albums to hit the shelves, so far for 2014, and many North American artists can thank their lucky stars that The Patrik Jansson Band isn't located closer by, as they would certainly be giving everyone a run for their money.
